By City lets you browse properties by place rather than by filter. Useful when you're still deciding where to buy.
Regions and cities
The page has two lists.
- By Region
- Each region card shows how many properties are listed, population, how many cities it has, and the average asking price and price range, with a short description. Browse → opens the region.
- Cities
- The same summary for each city, with the region it's in.
A city's page
Opening a city shows:
- Headline figures: population, properties listed, average asking price and price range.
- About the city: a short description and key facts, sourced from Wikipedia.
- Tourist attractions: notable places nearby.
- Suburbs: each suburb's name, how many properties are listed and sold, and the median, average and range of prices, with a photo and description where OurHouse has them.
- Properties in the city: the listings themselves. View all → opens them in All Properties, already filtered.
Browsing without an account
The city pages can also be seen without signing in, at /homes-for-sale/{city}, for example
/homes-for-sale/wellington. Each page lists the homes for sale in that city with their photo, price guide,
address and basic facts (bedrooms, bathrooms, type and land area). Sold, withdrawn and private homes are never listed.
The city list shows each city's photo, credited to its photographer on Unsplash, with the number of homes, the lowest asking price and the most common property types. Each city page shows a photo of the city, credited the same way. Each home shows its own
main photo; where a home has none, a placeholder is shown instead.
Opening a home shows the same details on a page of its own. Its description, agent and anything you add yourself are only
in your account.
To save a home, choose Sign up to add to a watchlist. Once you've signed up or logged in, you're taken straight to that home, where you can add it to a watchlist.
Suburb market stats
Wherever a suburb shows a Market stats button (on city pages and property pages), it opens a summary of that suburb:
- Active listings, median asking price, average asking price and range.
- Median sold price and median days on market, when there have been enough recent sales to be reliable.
- A chart of the median sold price over recent months.
On city and region pages, a suburb with at least three sales in the last 12 months also shows a small line of its median sold price over that year, under its figures.
Where there aren't enough recent sales, OurHouse says so rather than showing a figure that could mislead.
